By using this website or these platforms, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy. Please review it regularly, as we may update it from time to time. Updates will be posted here and apply only moving forward, not retroactively.

Our Commitment to Privacy

We take your privacy—and your students' privacy—very seriously. Our platforms are built to protect personal data and comply with applicable federal and state data protection laws, including:

  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
  • Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA), where applicable
  • New York Education Law §2-d

We strive to provide a safe, secure, and compliant environment for schools, teachers, and students.

Student Data Collection and Use

Both Developing Decoders Digital and Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. Digital empower educators to manage student data responsibly. Teachers can create student accounts using:

  • Full names, abbreviations, or initials
  • A two-picture password system unique to each student

At no time is a student asked to provide or submit personal information themselves.

We never use student data for marketing or commercial purposes. Data is used strictly to deliver educational services and track instructional progress.

Children’s Privacy

Only educators or parents who have provided consent may create student accounts. Students access their accounts using:

  • Their teacher’s username
  • A dropdown selection of their name
  • A two-picture password assigned by their teacher

Parents or guardians may request the complete deletion of their child’s data at any time by contacting us at info@StructuredLiteracy.com.

Data Security

We take extensive measures to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and security of your data across both platforms:

  • Industry-standard SSL encryption for data transmission
  • Hosting through Amazon Web Services (AWS), which maintains a FERPA Compliance Program
  • Regular software updates and security patching
  • Role-based access for authorized staff only
  • Periodic risk assessments and prompt remediation of vulnerabilities
  • Notification within 72 hours in the event of a data breach

Data Retention Policy

We retain student and teacher data only as long as necessary to provide educational services or as required by law. Schools and districts may request full deletion of all user data at any time.

Subprocessors

We use third-party services to support both digital platforms. These subprocessors include:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): Cloud hosting and storage
  • Google Tag Manager®, Meta (Facebook)®: For limited adult-only analytics and advertising on marketing pages

All subprocessors are contractually obligated to meet our privacy and security standards.

Parent and Educator Rights: NY Ed Law §2-d

In accordance with New York Education Law §2-d, we are committed to the following:

  1. Student personally identifiable information (PII) will never be sold or used for commercial purposes.
  2. Parents may inspect and review their child’s educational data through teacher-generated PDF downloads.
  3. State and federal laws protect the confidentiality of PII, and appropriate safeguards (i.e., encryption, firewalls, password protection) are in place.
  4. Parents may file complaints regarding breaches by contacting the Chief Privacy Officer or NYSED, or using the form at https://www.nysed.gov/data-privacy-security/educational-agencies-report-data-privacysecurity-incident
